Treatise by Scottish folklorist Lewis Spence on the British tradition of fairy legends. Spence explores theories regarding the origin of fairy lore, as well as superstitions, religious and spiritual roots, and connections to early European inhabitants. Originally published in 1946, this volume is described on the back cover as "the first book to provide a concise historical survey of the various theories that have been put forward to account for the origins of fairy legends in British tradition.
