I fotografihistorisk samanheng dominerer turistfotografia inntrykket av Suldal i eldre tid. Straabø skapte ein serie verdfulle dokumentarfotografi frå dalføret. Desse representerer det eigenlege Suldal, ikkje det glansbiletet som turistfotografane skapte. Fotografia til Straabø dokumenterer nemleg ”kvardags-Suldal”. Dei fortel både på ein direkte og indirekte måte om korleis det var å leva i gamle Suldal kommune i åra rundt 1900 – 1930
