James Rachels (1941-2003) var professor i filosofi ved University of Alabama i Birmingham, Alabama. Han skrev The End of Life: Euthanasia and Morality (1986), Created from Animals: The Moral Implications of Darwinism (1990), Can Ethics Provide Answers? (1997), Problems from Philosophy (2005) og The Legacy of Socrates (2006). Stuart Rachels er førsteamanuensis i filosofi ved University of Alabama. Han er tidligere sjakkmester i USA og såkalt Life Master i bridge, og han var redaktør for fjerde utgave av The Right Thing to Do: Basic Readings in Moral Philosophy (utgitt 2006 - i de foregående utgavene stod James Rachels som redaktør).
