After the Second World War, the international migration regime in Europe took a course different from the global migration regime and the migration regimes in other regions of the world. From the bureaucratic and restrictive practices that prevailed in the late 1940s in most parts of Europe, the European migration regime was deeply transformed by the gradual implementation of the free movement of people within the European Community, of European citizenship, and of the Schengen agreements in their internal and external dimensions. They have produced a regional regime in Europe with an unparalleled degree of intra-regional openness and an unparalleled degree of closure towards migrants from outside Europe. On the basis of relevant national and international archives, this book explains how German geopolitical and geo-economic strategies during the Cold War shaped the openness of that original regime. The History of the European Migration Regime highlights how the regime was instrumental for Germany to create a stable international order in Western Europe after the war, conducive to German reunification, the rollback of Russian influence from Central Europe, and German economic expansion. Himmel og helvete (1758) er en detaljert utlegning av livet etter det dennesidige, en forklaring på hvor menneskene havner etter at vårt fysiske legeme har avgått ved døden. Menneskene blir da til engler og djevler. Det er et overveldende emneregister denne boken presenterer, og Swedenborg gir blant annet detaljerte beskrivelser av englenes liv og samfunn, ekteskapets plass i himmelen og småbarns kår. Swedenborgs teologiske skrifter har i ettertid vært en inspirator for mange av de største forfattere, kunstnere og filosofer i verden. Politikaren, publisisten, gründaren og strategen Hagbard Emanuel Berner (1839-1920) var ein mangfaldig aktivist. Han var grunnleggjar og første redaktør av Dagbladet, grunnleggjar og første formann i Norsk Kvinnesaksforening, han grunnla Det Norske Samlaget, og han sat i ni år på Stortinget for Venstre. Han var engasjert i likbrenningssaka, og han var kjent som Flagg-Berner - mannen bak det reine norske flagget. Han var borgarmeister i Kristiania i 15 år, og før det hadde han vore direktør i Hypotekbanken like lenge. Og statsrevisor endå lengre. Hagbard Berner var eit prisme for si tid. Ein radikal blekksprut og strateg, som visste kor viktig det var med organisering og alliansebygging. Han sto midt oppe i det store venstreprosjektet som forandra Noreg i siste halvdel av 1800-talet. Dette er eit portrett av ein mann, hans miljø og hans tid. Ei tid då alt var politikk.
