Her finnes alle tider i én og samme by. Byens omegn med bl.a.

Perspectives on Teaching English at the U.S.-Mexico Border
The U.S. - Mexico border crossing has become an area of study in its own right. However, very few of the current books focus on language and linguistic factors such as this one. Perspectives on Teaching English at the U.S. - Mexico Border adds knowledge, understanding, and insight not only to the field of TESOL, but to other fields as well. Dr. Urzua notes: ""Much can be learned from exploring English language teaching at institutions of higher education located in the borderlands, especially in terms of understanding the effects of national and regional educational policies on both sides of the border, the impact of such policies on English language learners, and how issues associated with transnationalism may affect English language teaching.

Brazil
Brazil is the world's sixth largest economy, has played a key role as one of the 'pink wave' administrations in Latin America, and was also responsible for wrecking the US-sponsored proposal for a Free Trade Area of the Americas. It is also one of the few large countries where social spending has risen and the distribution of income has improved in the last thirty years. However, as protests during the World Cup in 2014 have shown, the country remains highly unequal, unmet social needs are vast and its infrastructure is precarious.Alfredo Saad-Filho and Lecio Morais review the paradox that is modern-day Brazil. Focusing on the period from 1980 onwards, they analyse the tensions between the two systemic transitions to have dominated the country: the political transition from military rule to democracy, and to neoliberalism. The authors show how these transitions had contradictory logics and dynamics, yet ultimately became mutually supportive as they unfolded and intertwined.

The Dictator Dilemma
In The Dictator's Dilemma, Kirk Tyvela tells the story of US bilateral relations with the Alfredo Stroessner dictatorship (1954-1989). He focuses on how and why that diplomatic relationship changed during the Cold War from cooperation, based on mutual opposition to communism, to conflict, based on clashing expectations concerning democratic reforms and human rights. The policy debates by officials in Washington and in Asuncion brought out a tension that has defined US diplomacy for more than a century: how can the US partner with friendly tyrants while proclaiming a democratic mission to help other nations liberalize their societies? Tyvela argues that the Stroessner regime was symbolic of a broader foreign policy struggle to perpetuate, enforce, and ultimately redefine the importance of friendly dictators to US global and hemispheric interests during the Cold War.

The concept of nature in Marx
In "The Concept of Nature in Marx," Alfred Schmidt examines humanity's relation to the natural world as understood by the great philosopher-economist Karl Marx, who wrote that human beings are 'part of Nature yet able to stand over against it; and this partial separation from Nature is itself part of their nature'. In Marx, industry and science are the mediation between historical man and external nature, leading either to reconciliation or mutual annihilation. Schmidt explores this tension between man and nature in Marx and shows how his understanding of nature is reflected in the work of writers such as Bertolt Brecht, Walter Benjamin and Emst Bloch.

Studies in Medievalism XXIII
Ethics in post-medieval responses to the Middle Ages form the main focus of this volume. The six opening essays tackle such issues as the legitimacy of reinventing medieval customs and ideas, at what point the production and enjoyment of caricaturizing the Middle Ages become inappropriate, how medievalists treat disadvantaged communities, and the tension between political action and ethics in medievalism. The eight subsequent articles then build on this foundation as they concentrate on capitalist motives for melding superficially incompatible narratives in medievalist video games, Dan Brown's use of Dante's Inferno to promote a positivist, transhumanist agenda, disjunctures from medieval literature to medievalist film in portrayals of human sacrifice, the influence of Beowulf/I> on horror films and vice versa, portrayals of war in Beowulf films, socialism in William Morris's translation of Beowulf, bias in Charles Alfred Stothard's Monumental Effigies of Great Britain, and a medieval source for death in the Harry Potter novels. The volume as a whole invites and informs a much larger discussion on such vital issues as the ethical choices medievalists make, the implications of those choices for their makers, and the impact of those choices on the world around us. Karl Fugelso is Professor of Art History at Towson University in Baltimore, Maryland. Contributors: Mary R. Bowman, Harry Brown, Louise D'Arcens, Alison Gulley, Nickolas Haydock, Lisa Hicks, Lesley E. Jacobs, Michael R. Kightley, Phillip Lindley, Pascal J. Massie, Lauryn S. Ida O'Keeffe
This is the first publication devoted to Ida Ten Eyck O'Keeffe (1889-1961), the younger sister of Georgia O'Keeffe. It presents a thoughtful consideration of Ida's personal history and her creative work. As a professionally trained artist, graduating with an MFA from Columbia in 1932, Ida crafted an artistic identity that was dynamic and distinct in style and subject matter from that of her celebrated sibling. The positive critical attention she received became a source of tension between her and Georgia, who was determined that there would be only one painter in the family. Ida's complex relationship with Georgia and Alfred Stieglitz, though once loving and close, eventually devolved into estrangement. This volume illustrates works by Ida, including oils, watercolors, and monotypes, and examines their merits as well as their place within the aesthetics of American Modernism during the 1920s and 1930s.

Marc Ferrez & Robert Polidori
Housed in a slipcase, Rio contains the work of two photographers who portray Rio de Janeiro in a visual dialogue spanning the centuries. Book One showcases nineteenth-century photographer Marc Ferrez's classical work on the city where he spent his five-decade career, from the mid-1860s to the early 1910s, while Book Two presents a project of Robert Polidori's from the past five years, in which he photographed Rio, emphasizing its contemporary dynamic and dense urban configuration. Polidori contextualizes today's Rio within the natural settings from which the city grew, and which have defined its iconic international profile throughout history. This tension between the natural and built environments, also significant in Ferrez's work, is a defining reference for Rio's inhabitants and is here beautifully documented in its historic and present variations.Marc Ferrez (1843-1923) is the most important Brazilian photographer of the nineteenth century. Ferrez produced a vast documentation of Rio and its surroundings using specialized cameras and large-format negatives, including a rotating panoramic camera. His last large-scale project was the Avenida Central album (1905), a unique architectural photography series on urban renewal in Rio in the early 1900s.Robert Polidori (born 1951) was born in Montreal and today lives in Los Angeles. Polidori received the World Press Photo Award in 1997, the Alfred Eisenstaedt Award for Magazine Photography in 1999 and 2000 and Communication Arts awards in 2007 and 2008. In 2006 Polidori's controversial photographs of Hurricane Katrina's aftermath were exhibited at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
