About the book
Comprises the fifth volume of a series on Dostoyevsky's life and work in the context of the ideas of his time. Ch. 16 (pp. 301-319), "The Jewish Question", focuses on his "The Diary of a Writer", pointing to the contrast between Dostoyevsky's negative images of Jews, e.g. as materialistic exploiters, and his Christian utopian idea of a world in which Jews will also find a place. "The Jewish Question" was the title of a March 1877 article in "The Diary of a Writer".
